JW mother wants to send her son to a mental institute for being atheist & wanting to go to college
by Khaleesi ini am not sure if this was posted before.
i am the mother of an 10 year old and i would have never treated my son like this for wanting to go to college, believes in evolution & is an atheist...i am disgusted how this jw mother can't see how her son has the freedom of thought or religion.... this poor kid most likely does not do drugs or is in a street gang, he just wants to go to college for crying out loud.... this is insane, just shows how a religion or organization blinds all logic from you... it's a cult..... i know there are many cult jws parents out there who would do this, its insane and disgusting.... where is the love you say you should have towards your children?
this is straight out abuse.... read the article but scroll down for the recording.... .

Haha, Cognac, I want to do almost the opposite of you. Spend more time at home, gain weight, work less, and stop celebrating holidays out of a sense of obligation. Number 5 is good though. -

How did you feel on Christmas as a JW child?
by cookiemaster inthis is obviously a question for born-ins like me.
so, how did christmas feel to you as a child?
to me it was awful.

The first Christmas I remember was when I was 5 years old. My mother was a Witness and my father was Catholic. My father had a tradition of putting up the Christmas tree after all my sisters and brother went to sleep on Christmas eve. We got up early Christmas morning, before sunrise, went down to the living room and there was a huge tree with many wrapped presents underneath. The only lights on were the lights on the tree. It was still dark outside so it created such a beautiful glow in the room. I remember how excited I was. We woke up my mother and father to come out so we could open the presents.
Then, just before we started opening presents, I'll never forget what my mother said to me. Her words struck me so hard that I can still remember every detail of that moment. My mother and I were standing in the kitchen and I could see the tree glowing in the living room. There were no lights on in the house except the glow from the lights on the tree. She was wearing a flannel nightgown and I was in my pajamas. I remember exactly where I was standing and can still see the room frozen in my minds eye right down to the decorative white plate of hard "ribbon candy" on the round walnut table behind her. I looked up to her and asked "is it okay to open the presents?" She replied, in a very kind and sincere way: "You can celebrate Christmas but you know how Jehovah feels about that Paul!"
My world forever changed when I heard those words. I instantly felt so torn and guilty. I couldn't enjoy anything after that and started a long descent into depression. Things went downhill from there.

What did you have for Christmas dinner?
by GrreatTeacher inmy inlaws are polish, though my husband is a 3rd generation american, but the food traditions have stuck around.. we have christmas eve dinner starting with red beet soup with sour cream, pierogies filled with mashed potatoes or saurkraut, ham, polish sausage sliced and cooked with saurkraut, turkey (that part is american), krischickies (likely spelled wrong) which are crispy pastries dipped in powdered sugar, and apple pie (also american.).
there are goodnatured threats toward bad children who may need to get their dupa busted (butt spanked) and therefore santa will bring figismachen.
i also love golabkis (ground beef and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves), but these were not served this time.

GrreatTeacher, No, just got back from the restaurant. I don't want to fight the crowds at the theater.

Actually I am eating at a Chinese buffet! I live in the neighborhood where the movie "A Christmas Story" was filmed. In the movie, the family goes to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas. That's where I got the idea.

it simply makes no sense to keep all those people if you don't need them. With all the cuts in literature production what are they going to do? -

Does Jehovah Intervene - JW Teaching
by thedepressedsoul ini have been a jw my whole life and i have never been able to get a clear answer on this question.
jw's do not believe that jehovah will intervene if someone is sick, dying or stopping a car crash.
they feel that jehovah is letting "this world" play out before he solves all of these problems.

Not far from where I live, three young girls were abducted and held captive for over 10 years. They were raped, beaten, chained, tortured, etc, until they finally were able to escape. Do you really think God is answering prayers for gas money while letting those girls suffer all that time and countless other situations like it? And if he does, why would you worship a God like that? I would have zero respect for a God that answered my prayers. -

Hedge Funds Still Off
by berrygerry indid the investment guru(s) at bethel pick the wrong fund manager, and hence the big need for cash?.
laggner refers to companies like valeant, sunedison and micron technology as hedge fund hotels, where you check in but cant check out.. i mean they cant get out because they are the market, laggner said.
when they all try to get out, the stock collapses.. valeant is a classic example of a hedge fund hotel in that it has dropped from a high of $260 a share to the $100 range as the stock was obliterated by sellers.

I'm only guessing but probably what happened is they panicked in the market crash of 2007 through 2009 and got out at the bottom and lost a ton of money. Then they decided they wouldn't make that mistake again and invested in midstream oil pipeline MLP funds which were considered very safe before the crash in oil prices. I remember reading somewhere that they are holding a lot of energy funds. -

I do hope one day that you feel comfortable sharing why you left. At least the CliffsNotes version. I am curious because you're obviously much more well read that I. Also, you're not a dogmatic black and white thinker. So obviously if you feel it's the truth naturally I'd like to know why. What am I missing? Am I just too stupid to see the obvious?
I still feel it's possible that Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth. For me it's not a matter of whether or not it's the truth but the character of the person called Jehovah. Does he deserve to be worshipped? If Jehovah's Witnesses have the correct interpretation should I worship a God that couldn't think of a better solution than destroying billions of people and causing all this suffering? I don't like Jehovah.
I don't know if this helps, but imagine Leolaia doing what you did? Wouldn't you be the least bit curious?
